Salma on the cover of the May issue of Marie Claire
Article written on April 14, 2007 • Posted by Admin

Salma’s featured on the cover of the May issue of US Marie Claire – in a brand new photoshoot! Contact Music provided us all with previews of the article, and thanks to Riikka I now can provide you with a preview of the cover! See the gorgeous new shoot to the right. In the magazine, Salma talks about domestic violence and that it’s time for women to take control, as well as shares her opinions on the Bible’s view of women. Continue reading for the very interesting sneak-peek.

Salma is urging women to take control of their lives and help others in an effort to end domestic violence. The Frida star has joined a Marie Claire crusade to wipe out domestic violence in the next 10 years and thinks it’s time women started to make a stand to demand the respect they deserve. She says, “Men have been running the world and – I’m sorry – but they have not taken us to a good place. We are in crisis. “What would happen if women were in power? What decisions would we make? “If women are going to have the self-respect they need to go out and make a change in society, it has to start with how they’re treated in their homes.” Pregnant Hayek admits she was introduced to domestic violence at a young age – when her father attempted to stop a man from beating up his wife in the street. She recalls, “Instead of being grateful, she (the beaten woman) turned and started beating him (father) for defending her. “Some people might say, ‘Well, then it’s her fault,’ but it made me realise she needed much more help than someone breaking up a fight.”

Pregnant Salma Hayek has never been a fan of the Bible because she hates the way the good book depicts women and reveres sex. The Mexican actress insists she still believes in God and Jesus Christ, but she’ll always have big problems with the Bible. In an interview for women’s magazine Marie Claire, which the Frida star conducted before announcing her pregnancy, she explains, “I don’t like the way the Bible views women – this thing about the Virgin Mary conceiving a child without having sex – so if you conceive a child by having sex, there’s a subliminal message that there’s something dirty about it. “And this is what makes us divine – I mean, the possibility of creating another life should remind women that we are creators, that we are made like God in our ability. “There is nothing greater than to create another human being.”
