I have added the clip and screencaps from yesterday’s Nightline. Salma was shown going to Sierra Leone, Africa as part of The One Pack campaign with UNICEF and Pampers to witness first hand the effects of tetanus, and help be the solution. Salma actually breastfeeds a hungry infant born on the same day as Valentina, her daughter. She also gives the prevention shot to women and discussing the cause in an interview. The video is naturally upsetting, but it’s also very educational. As always learn more about Salma’s involvement and other charity work on the supported causes page. Salma,
I am so thankful to you. Breastfeeding is the best thing you can do for a child and it’s the most natural way to nourish our babies. I am thrilled this is getting so much coverage and it brought me to tears to see you nurse that little boy. I hope you can help educate the women there on how to maintain a good healthy milk supply. I know La Leche League International would help.
I have nursed all my children for years, not months, and it’s been a joy and pleasure to see them grow up so healthy and strong. My two boys, for instance, have never had an ear infection. My daughter, now 12, only had one!
One of my friends also took some of my donated milk when she wasn’t able to completely relactate when she adopted her second child. Even if was just a few ounces, Rachel would just weep whenever I was able to give her my milk for her daughter. It’s truly an amazing blessing to share. I’m glad you were able to do this for all moms everywhere. It’s empowering! Bravo!
Congratulations!!!
Parabéns à Salma pelo belo exemplo, fiquei muito emocionada com este gesto de amor vindo dela.
Kisses Salma Hayek.
Watching Salma breastfeed that little African baby boy brought tears to my eyes. This act was brave and generous, something that any mother who breastfeeds would hopefully offer in that situation. It is a beautiful demonstration of surrendering oneself and body in service of a child in need. I commend Salma for putting her reputation second and the immediate needs of the baby first. I will love her now forever.
Salma, both my husband and i think that what you did by breast feeding that child was not only selfless it was a very tuching thing to see. i am a very proud mother of 2 beautiful girls and i have breast fed both of them. i think that i would have done the same thing if i were in your situation. there’s nothing like a mothers milk. as a fan i am very proud …thank you Salma
