Salma Hayek could have competed in the Olympics!
Article written on July 4, 2012 • Posted by Admin

Salma Hayek is one of the biggest names in Hollywood and Mexico nowadays, thanks to her acting career. However she recently revealed that she could have competed in the Olympic Games. Except her dad wouldn’t let her.

Apparently Salma was a talented gymnast, and had been picked to compete in the Olympics for the Mexican team. However her dad thwarted the plans, insisting she should remain normal for as long as possible. She doesn’t have time to dwell on it over a foxy game of bingo, or a book nowadays though, being such a successful actress. In fact, she insists she has no resentment towards him over the decision.

Her comments come out ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games, which are being held in London this year. Speaking about it, she said: “They drafted me . . . to be part of the Olympic team! But I was eight or nine and my father said no because I would have had to go live in Mexico City”, and do six to eight hours a day of training. A prospect her younger self would have deemed “paradise”.

Despite her dad’s efforts to keep her normal for as long as possible, the plan clearly didn’t work indefinitely. She jokes that it “worked out for me because now I’m an actress!”

Now aged 45, Salma isn’t interested in being athletic any more. Although it is a necessary evil to keep in shape. “It’s tiring, boring, you have to smell everybody else’s sweat and even if you’re in your own house, you know, it takes a lot of effort. I like dancing, but I do work out more than before.”

It shows. Salma’s new film Savages is currently being promoted.
