It’s hard to dispute that Mexican actress Salma Hayek appears to be the perfect physical package. But the brunette star has an important message: true beauty comes from the inside.
According to Hayek, “In my world, you have to be so beautiful, so skinny, so famous — and I don’t believe you really have to be any of those things. You simply have to be who you are. You’re not more important, smarter, or prettier because you wear a designer dress.”
It’s a lesson Hayek feels so strongly about that she is now producing it for the small screen with the debut of “Ugly Betty” on ABC. Read the full story »

Salma Hayek resents the time she spends in the make-up chair on film sets, because it’s a huge chunk of her life. The Frida star admits she once sat down and attempted to work out how much of her life she’ll have spent in make-up trailers and she was horrified by her sums.
She says, “It’s always so awkward for me. One day I did all the math of the hours that I’ve sat in the make-up and hair chair, and I did a projection for the future – and it was a year of my life. I could be learning something or eating and I just sit there while somebody paints my face and messes with my hair.”

Salma Hayek has dismissed reports that she has a $100 million fortune, and said if she did, she would retire and use the money to help the poor.
Local media in Mexico and Latin America reported this week that the Oscar-nominated actress had been ranked by Fortune magazine as the second-richest Latin American in Hollywood, with nearly half as much money as singer Jennifer Lopez.
“It’s a huge lie. It’s very, very far from reality. I don’t have that amount of money,” Hayek told Reuters, after reading an article in Mexican daily El Universal about a list of “Latino millionaires” in the United States.
“Somebody sent me it and I laughed. It’s a bit like a joke. Obviously I have never earned $100 million and I wouldn’t even want to,” she said in a telephone interview from her Los Angeles home.
