Sorry for the lack of updates as of lately. There aren’t that much going on with Salma at the moment, and I’ve been working hard on revamping my other site about Courteney Cox. Here’s an article, though, about Salma’s guest appearance in Ugly Betty in the coming episode.
“Salma Hayek, who’s been content to keep a low profile as an executive producer on her new hit series Ugly Betty, steps into the limelight this week when she appears on the ABC comedy.
In a four-episode story arc expertly timed for November sweeps, the stunning Mexican actress plays Sofia Reyes, a beautiful mystery woman who appears in the lobby of the Mode magazine offices. Instantly attracted to her, perpetually randy editor-in-chief Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) asks for Betty’s (America Ferrera) help in finding her identity.
Hayek has appeared on the show once, as the maid in the telenovela watched religiously by Betty’s dad, Ignacio (Tony Plana).

Hayek, who executive produces the series, will make her first guest starring appearance in the November 2 episode called ‘Trust, Lust, and Must’.
She’ll appear in three more episodes throughout the month of November.

The most-watched new TV show of the 2006-07 season, Ugly Betty was picked up for a full season order, Stephen McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment announced today. The show, based on the worlds most popular telenovela, Yo Soy Betty La Fea, is executive-produced by Salma Hayek and stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez.
“In just two weeks Ugly Betty has given us an impressive foothold leading into the Greys Anatomy hour on Thursday night”, said McPherson. “The show has proven to be competitive in a very strong time period, and we’re thrilled with Ugly Bettys performance.”
The ABC freshman has already established itself a solid second to CBS time period veteran Survivor in the 8 oclock hour among Total Viewers (15.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.7/13), while holding the No. 1 position on average with Adults 18-34 (4.0/12). On average, Ugly Betty has improved the time period for ABC by 96% in Total Viewers (15.3 million vs.. 7.8 million) and by 92% in Adults 18-49 (4.8/14 vs.. 2.5/7) over the same nights last year. Additionally Ugly Betty qualifies as the No. 1 new series this season in Total Viewers (1.13 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.2/9) among Hispanic viewers watching English language TV.

Salma Hayek stunned her Latin American audience when she left her role on Teresa, a highly rated telenovela, to move to Hollywood 15 years ago. Unfortunately back then, as Salma found out, most Hollywood roles for Latin women were prostitutes, waitresses or maids. Thankfully that’s no longer the case.
With the premiere of Ugly Betty, an American take on the Colombian show Yo Soy Betty, La Fea on Thursday night, it seems Salma may have had the last laugh. As the executive producer of the critically acclaimed show, Salma could have easily have had a cameo as a model or high-powered fashion executive. Instead, she decided to go back to her roots and maybe take a dig at the Hollywood casting agents who typecast her so long ago.
Salma plays a maid on a telenovela that is on constantly in Betty’s house. Hayek’s on tv overacting proves the highly accomplished actress can still poke fun at herself and at the industry.
