The first ever Russian pavilion will open in the mecca of cinema on May 15. At this year’s Cannes Festival, Russian film-makers will celebrate 100 years of Russian cinema. The 50-square-metre pavilion with a terrace facing the sea will host business meetings and glamorous soirees.
Among the guests expected to turn out for the opening party on May 16 are Quentin Tarantino and Salma Hayek.
On the same day a Golden Palm winning Soviet film, “The Cranes Are Flying” by director Mikhail Kalatozov will be shown to the Cannes public.
Russian film masters such as Sergey Bodrov and Aleksey German will hold workshops, revealing their professional secrets to visitors.
Although there will be no Russian films vying for the Golden Palm this year, three Russian film-makers will be featured in the festival’s parallel programme.

It’s not sure whether we’ll see Salma walk down the red carpet at the Oscars tomorrow night, but we might at least see her at one of the post-Oscar parties! According to an article in New York Daily News, one source familiar with the star-studded guest-list to Prince’s exclusive party says names include “Katie and Tom, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett, Salma and Penelope.” Hopefully this turns out to be true, and we’ll see Salma all glamoured-up tomorrow whether she attends the Oscars itself or not. I’ll keep you posted!
UPDATE: It doesn’t seem like Salma attended any of the parties. She probably had a fun night with family and friends instead.
