Salma was signed by Revlon Cosmetics to act as one of their faces in 1998-1999. She appeared on ads for Revlon Top Speed Nail Colour and Revlon MoistureStay Lip Colour as well as in TV-commercials for Revlon EveryLash Mascara. She was seen together with Rachel Chow, Melanie Griffiths and Halle Berry on some of the ads.

In 1999, Salma was the break-out star of the year with the Wild Wild West-fame. Hennes & Mauritz signed Salma and rode on her wave of fame as she was seen across the globe on swimsuit posters for the Swedish brand.

With Salma being involved in the domestic violence-questions in Mexico, Avon thought that it'd be a good idea to sign Salma as well as give a part of their profit to help the victims of domestic violence. In the years 2004-2008 she acted as a spokesperson for the company and appeared in print ads and TV-commercials. Some of the stuff she promoted was the SuperFULL Mascara and Shine Supreme Reflections Lipstick.

Salma was the woman to be featured in all 12 months of the Italian Campari Calendar in 2007. The photos were taken by famous photographer Mario Testino in collaboration with Matthew Rolston. The Campari Calendar 2007 was produced in a limited edition of 9,999 copies sold world-wide. Salma also appeared in TV-commercials for Campari the same year.
