Trivia Salma is an Arabic name that means "peace" or "calm". She speaks fluent English, Arabic, Spanish and Portugese. Salma is dyslexic. Salma is one of only two Latin actresses to have been nominated for an Academy Award. She recorded the song "La Bruja" featured in "Frida" with band "Los Vega" which is included in the film's soundtrack. Salma also recorded song "Siente mi amor" for "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" soundtrack and song "Quedate Aqui" for the "Desperado" soundtrack. Salma was terrified after bumping into the niece of the real Frida Kahlo she plays in 'FRIDA', and even more shocked to find the relative loved her role. Salma does very little exercise and never goes to a gym. Salma has dated both actors Edward Norton and Josh Lucas. She is the godmother to director Robert Rodriguez's children. Salma's best friend with Spanish actress Penélope Cruz. She's good friend with actors Ashley Judd and Saffron Burrows. Salma was featured in People magazine's 50 most beautiful people list in both 1996 and 2003. Salma loves her dogs and can't be without them. She was a member in the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. Salma has actually played a stripper twice, in "From Dusk Till Dawn" in 1996 and 1999-movie "Dogma". Was originally considered for the part of Alicia Larde in "A Beautiful Mind" because the character in real life is from El Salvador. But the character for the film was later changed to American and given to Jennifer Connelly. She was considered for a role in the 2002 Bond-movie "Die Another Day".
